The Spinalian discovered refereeing at school. After a few seasons playing soccer, Benoît Bastien decided to take up the whistle at the age of 18, convinced by the values that characterize this function in his eyes: responsibility, honesty, respect and dedication.
Voted best Ligue 1 referee at the UNFP soccer trophies, he has directed several hundred matches at national, European and international level since the start of his rich career.
The referee's decisions are often contested, making him or her a central and driving force in sports matches and competitions. In order to perform effectively, particularly when it comes to making quick decisions and managing emotions, it's essential to be mentally prepared.
